Interview with Storecon, nominees for the Rising Star of the Year 2025 award

One of the nominees is Johan Pfeiler, founder of Storecon.

Could you describe the journey you’ve been on as a company – from the initial idea to today’s solution – and what has been your strongest driving force along the way?
– It all began when Marcus, who works with us, grew tired of an outdated industry where he saw over-purchasing and waste becoming the norm on a daily basis. Right from the start, we wanted to change the way the industry viewed procurement and material consumption – both to reduce our impact on the planet and to create financial benefits for our customers. Today, we offer a range of different types of hardware from which our customers’ staff can identify and select their materials, whilst the transaction is sent directly to our consumption portal. There, the customer gains full transparency regarding when, by whom and where the materials have been selected. The process raises awareness of material usage, reduces waste and ensures what we often refer to as ‘smarter consumption’.

What business lessons have been most important for your growth over the past year, and how have they influenced the way you are continuing to build your business?
– We have expanded our range to support both direct customers and resellers. Customers are given the option to choose whether they wish to be completely vendor-independent or to take advantage of attractive solutions via our resellers. We’ve noticed that smaller players in particular appreciate having a partner who can help them with technical challenges that they lack the resources to develop themselves – so that they can compete with the major players who have their own, proprietary solutions.

What are your plans for the next stage of your growth – both in terms of technology and the market?
– We are happy with our position in the market, where we are virtually the only vendor-independent partner specialising in digital warehouse solutions. We are constantly evaluating new technologies and hardware such as RFID and AI cameras, although at present we have great confidence in load cells – which are our main solution today,in collaboration with several suppliers. We also recognise that significantly more sectors than just manufacturing can benefit from our solutions. We therefore firmly believe in growth in areas such as the office sector, healthcare and, in the long term, the defence industry as well.

What does the ‘Rising Star of the Year’ nomination mean to you as a team, and how does it reflect the journey you’ve been on?
– We’ve had a year that we’re incredibly proud of, so it’s obviously very rewarding to receive this kind of recognition. At the same time, we see it as motivation to keep developing what we do and to continue challenging industries to become more digitalised, more cost-effective and more sustainable – through reduced consumption and smarter use of resources.
